Time flies! It’s already the last day of the year. Did you have a good year? Mine was awesome!! 🙂 As most sites are doing summaries of the year, here are the top five places that I visited this year:
1. Bioluminescent Bay Vieques Island, Puerto Rico
I spent a lot of time in Puerto Rico this year and got to discover much about the island. My favorite place was the bioluminescent bay at Vieques Island Mosquito Bay. The micro-organisms that live in the bay glow like the glow sticks when disturbed. The tour guide said it’s a part of their defensive mechanism. It was amazing! Imagine..dark dark night sky full of stars and trails of glowing water caused by fish that are swimming away from the tour raft. At one point, they stop the raft and let people dip their feet in the water and wash hands in the water. Your skin sparkles…just like the cullens. 😛
2. Cathedral in Cologne, Germany
I didn’t expect to see such a grand cathedral in Germany. The massive scale, beautiful stain glass windows and the all the details outside and inside of the cathedral walls were incredible. A must see if you are in the area!
3. Brazilian Steakhouse in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Mmm..There were many great food during my travels this year but one that stands out the most is the Brazilian steakhouses. Of course, they don’t call them Brazilian steakhouse in Brazil like how the French don’t have french fries but they are everywhere in Brazil. My co-worker and I were lucky enough to pick a popular place in Rio de Janeiro and ate ourselves to silliness. haha. The variety and taste of the meats were unmatchable!
4. Anime in Akihabara, Japan
An entire city area dedicated to anime! The books, dvds, plastic characters, stores with anime games, girls dressed as characters and costumes stores were all part of it. Anything you can think of being associated with anime, they had it! Very entertaining. 😎 Hope I get to go back in 2012!
5. Museum of Modern Art in New York City, NY
I got to visit a few different museums while traveling but most of what I wanted to see were placed in MoMA. I guess the more known pieces: Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh, The Persistence of Memory by Salvador Dali and The Birthday by Marc Chagall. So, it was great to end the year of travels in New York City and visit MoMA. I still enjoyed the other museums too though! I got some new favorites: The Blossoming Almond Tree at the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam, Netherlands and Space Venus at the Salvador Dali museum in Paris, France. Next on the list: Kiss by Gustave Klimt and Son of Man by Rene Magritte. 🙂
